Sustainability

THIOCRETE® — our circular sulfur concrete — enables infrastructure development with minimal environmental impact. It combines ultra-low CO₂ emissions with true circularity, offering a forward-thinking alternative to traditional materials.

Explore below how THIOCRETE® and its applications help you — as an infrastructure manager or sustainability officer — make a significant, measurable contribution to all six EU Taxonomy environmental objectives.

Are you subject to CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive)? We provide transparent, robust environmental data to support your reporting and guide your sustainable transformation.

A SUSTAINABLE CHOICE

The production of sulfur concrete is a purely physical process based on melting and solidification, which can be repeated endlessly — without degradation. This enables true circular use of the same material in identical applications.

Circularity is further guaranteed by the exclusive use of primary, high-quality raw materials, ensuring durability and performance across every cycle.

Compared to conventional cement concrete and other common materials like steel, ceramics, or plastics, THIOCRETE® achieves a 50–80% reduction in CO₂ emissions. This is thanks to:

  • The elimination of cement, a major emitter in construction,
  • A low-energy production process without calcination.

This positions your projects to align with the EU’s climate goals — including the 55% emissions reduction target by 2030, and regional objectives like the Flemish Climate Agreement (LEKP) and Covenants of Mayors

THIOCRETE® replaces both water and cement with sulfur — and requires no water at all during production:

  • No water as a raw material,
  • No water for cooling or processing.

In a world facing growing water scarcity, this makes sulfur concrete a responsible and future-proof material, fully aligned with EU objectives on sustainable water use and protection

Sulfur concrete is free of toxic substances and does not leach. Elemental sulfur, in its stable form, is insoluble in water and hydrophobic — preventing the release of pollutants and protecting soil, water, and ecosystems

This ensures compliance with EU goals on biodiversity, pollution prevention, and the preservation of natural capital

Thanks to its hydrophobic (water-repellent) properties, sulfur concrete is physically stable and acid-resistant — even in highly aggressive environments.

With a strength class of 160, it offers exceptional mechanical performance and a long lifespan, reducing the need for replacements and further lowering environmental impact over time.
